The LSU Tigers had quite the scare in the second round of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament.

The No. 3 seed LSU entered halftime trailing 11th-seeded Middle Tennessee 36-32 and were down by as many as nine points early in the third quarter.

However, the Tigers would roll from that point and run away with an 83-56 victory.

Conference USA player of the year Savannah Wheeler had 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Blue Raiders, and Ta’Mia Scott had 15 points and five rebounds.

Otherwise, LSU was able to hold every Blue Raider under 10 points.

LSU was led by Flau’jae Johnson, who had 21 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Aneesah Morrow had 19 points and 13 rebounds, Mikaylah Williams had 16 points and six rebounds and Angel Reese had 20 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals.

This spirited effort from Reese and the rest of Kim Mulkey’s squad had fans on social media projecting a chance at a repeat championship.

The win improves the Tigers record to 30-5 and advances it to the Sweet 16 for the second consecutive season. This will set up a matchup with either UCLA or Creighton in that round.
