A royal commentator gives insight into how the actual people of Nigeria felt about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s trip.
A royal commentator has opened up about how Nigerians really reacted to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s recent trip to the country.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited Nigeria for three days earlier this month to champion mental health initiatives for soldiers and empower young people as they celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.
Their trip was viewed positively by critics in general, with many royal watchers calling it a success, whilst others dubbed it an “unofficial royal tour”.
Now the Mirror’s royal editor, Russell Myers, has given us an insight into how the actual people of Nigeria felt for the royal couple’s visit to the West African nation.
He told this week’s edition of True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat: “The Nigerian press that I’d looked at at the time – it wasn’t landing and there were a lot of people saying.

“‘Well, why are they here? What does this mean for us? Is it just two people coming for the show?’
“I think then you ask yourself, ‘Why are they there? Was it for Invictus? Or was the Invictus message lost a little bit?'”
It comes as another royal commentator blasted the Sussex couple over their latest “dangerous move”.
Author Angela Levin claimed Harry and Meghan’s trip was a “very dangerous” move and accused them of wanting to “take over” from King Charles.
The Sussexes’s Nigeria trip was described as a success by many
She told GB News: “He [Harry] says that it’s important for us to meet directly with people supporting our causes…
“There’s a lot wrong with that because it’s not his job. He is not a [working] member of the Royal Family.”
Ms Levin also claimed the Sussex couple want to go on more ‘unofficial royal tours’ and “take over from the King and the Family because it’s difficult for them at the moment.”
