French NBA player from the San Antonio Spurs, Victor Wembanyama
NBA (DR)

We expect recruitment this summer at Spurs, especially with two choices in the top 10 of the draft. And it turns out that a French person could benefit from it, especially since Victor Wembanyama is a fan.

We don’t yet know who exactly, but it’s certain that Spurs will try something on the market this summer.

With money and two choices in the top 10 (4 and 8) of the draft, Texan leaders have everything they need to find a quality leader.

But this is not the only objective of the franchise, which could also bet on a Frenchman during the draft.

The name that’s been buzzing lately? Tidjane Salaün.

The Cholet product will be part of the next vintage and he scored a lot of points this week in France with 19 units, to the point of being praised by ESPN draft expert Jonathan Givony.

Rather interesting for the sequel, especially when the latter goes further in his praise.

Another Frenchman in the top 10 of the draft?

On paper, Salaün is however the one who generates the least hype, behind Alexandre Sarr and Zaccharie Risacher. Does that mean he’s less talented? Not necessarily.

NBA recruiters really appreciate his profile, including at the Spurs. According to Givony, the Texas franchise could use its 8th choice for Salaün.

Jonathan Givony : “After speaking to several NBA teams about Salaün this week, he appears to be closer to the top 10 in the draft than a distant lottery pick (top 14). He is currently ranked as number 10 in ESPN’s top 100. Several teams believe that the Spurs have a real chance of selecting him with their 8th pick. The connection to Victor Wembanyama is obvious, as the two share the same agent and have known each other since 2017, when their sisters played together for the FIBA U-16 Championship. »

Recruiters are already in France to follow Risacher, and we must believe that many will take the opportunity to monitor Salaün’s performance.

The latter has scored points with his recent prowess, so a place in the top 10 wouldn’t be that crazy. Wembanyama would not be unhappy, especially since he said this several months ago:

Wembanyama on Salaün : “I can trust this guy to improve and work like crazy. »

A new Frenchman at Spurs? We are still far from the draft and everything can change, but we imagine that the Spurs are interested in Tidjane Salaün. And it’s not Victor Wembanyama who will come and say bad things about him.
