Conor McGregor reveals his next opponent

Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor has been out of the octagon for what feels like ages. Fans have been chomping at the bit for his return. The ‘Notorious’ was supposed to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303, but a broken toe threw a wrench in those plans. Talk about a pain in the foot. Just when fans had settled into the notion of him not fighting, the Irish superstar dropped a bombshell.

McGregor was recently at the BKFC event in Marbella where he was rubbing elbows with rappers and sipping his own brand of stout. In a chat with Bloody Elbow, McGregor spilled the beans. He casually revealed that he had got a new date, venue, and opponent lined up.

“February first, Saudi Arabia… Dan Hooker”

Conor McGregor is apparently set to face none other than the number 5 ranked lightweight, Dan Hooker. The Irish star further called him “a nice guy” as he was leaving the venue. Hooker had mentioned his interest in fighting McGregor in the past. Fans would be ecstatic if this fight was to be made.

Dan Hooker recently climbed to the top 5 of the lightweight division after he had a three-round war with Mateusz Gamrot. He won the fight via split decision. Both he and Conor McGregor are entertainers and fan- -favorites, and it will be interesting to see what these two can achieve in terms of PPV sales and fan engagement.

Dan Hooker Gives The Nod To The Possibility Of Fighting Conor McGregor

‘The Notorious’ is back in the headlines as he confirmed his return on February 1st in Saudi Arabia against Dan Hooker. Now, Hooker is no pushover. He is the number five-ranked lightweight and a fan favorite. Known for his brawling style, he’s always down for a scrap.

Hooker talked to Submission Radio after Conor McGregor’s talk about fighting him. In true Kiwi fashion,  his response is cool as a cucumber. He revealed that he was on board with the idea and would very much like to fight the Irish star.

“I’ve got an opponent early next year that I’m focused on…if I had that amount of business and that much money, I don’t think you’d catch me anywhere near a cage for the rest of my days. So I can understand. It kind of is what it is, I’m going to fight between January and March, and you know me, it doesn’t really matter who that is. I always say yes”

Of course, nothing is set in stone until the UFC gives the green light. It will be a magnificent event if the matchmakers feel they are good to go. But it’s Conor McGregor, so nothing is true until it is and fans will have to wait and see if this fight news is true or not.
