Despite clinching a spot in this season’s WNBA playoffs, the Atlanta Dream have fired head coach Tanisha Wright.
Wright’s three-year run in Atlanta comes to an end after the Dream finished the 2024 season with a 15-25 record. Unfortunately for them, their postseason was short-lived, as they were swept 2-0 by the New York Liberty in the first round.
Wright was unable to post a winning season during her time with the team, leaving with a 48-68 overall record.
On Wednesday, Atlanta Dream general manager and executive vice president Dan Padover released a statement.
The Atlanta Dream have made the difficult decision to part ways with head coach Tanisha Wright.
Tanisha was an important contributor in our efforts to rebuild the Dream, and we want to thank her for her hard work and dedication to the Dream over the last three seasons and wish her the best in the future.
At this time, we believe a change in needed to lead our players and organization to the next chapter in our effort to be a top team in the WNBA.

Looking ahead, the Dream will enter the 2025 WNBA draft with second and third-round picks but no first-rounder after trading it in 2023 for guard Allisha Gray.
Regarding expiring player contracts, Cheyenne Parker-Tyus, Aerial Powers, Tina Charles, Lorela Cubaj and Maya Caldwell will all be free agents when the 2024 season officially concludes.
With this coaching change, Atlanta joins the Los Angeles Sparks and Angel Reese’s Chicago Sky in the search for a new head coach.
The WNBA playoffs continue on Friday. In the semi-finals, the Liberty hold a 2-0 lead over the Las Vegas Aces, while the Minnesota Lynx and Connecticut Sun are even at one win apiece.
